Mana Ake

Mana Ake, An Expression of Kaitiakitanga is a collective hapū management plan that is lodged with the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council in 2015 as an iwi environmental management plan under the Local Government Act and the RMA.  A product of Te Rūnanganui o Heretaunga collective and Te Manaaki Taiao it brought together shared marae hapū values and broad policies. Read document here

A second version of Mana Ake is to be compiled with the help pf marae and hapu kaitiaki in 2019, providing more detail around Māori environmental taonga, values, attributes, measurements and standards applied in future environmental management practices for wai, whenua, hau, maunga, whānau and marae.

It will have greater detail on agreed marae hapū influence areas (including waahi tapu) to help marae hapū planning (strategic & management), the establishment of marae hapū freshwater management units (FMUs) resulting from the mauri monitoring framework currently being determined by mana whenua kaitiaki.

Both Mana Ake versions will help future kaitiaki be informed of policies set by mana whenua for the natural, historical and current landscape of Heretaunga and its connection environmentally to the wider Kahungunu rohe.
